Kari Lake Wins GOP Senate Primary in Arizona, Setting Up Showdown With Rep. Ruben Gallego
PHOENIX—In a decisive victory, Kari Lake emerged as the Republican nominee for Arizona’s Senate race, defeating her primary challengers Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb and Elizabeth Reye. Lake secured approximately 53% of the vote, carrying all but two counties. Her victory sets the stage for a general election contest with Rep. Ruben Gallego, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
In her victory speech, Lake rallied support from a broad coalition, including “Trump Republicans, traditional Republicans, and disaffected Democrats.” She also criticized Gallego, calling him extreme and highlighting his origins from Chicago. Gallego responded swiftly, emphasizing the clear choice Arizona voters face, particularly on the issue of abortion rights.
As the race progresses, Lake and Gallego will vie to succeed Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.), who opted not to seek re-election. The contest promises to be a high-stakes battle in a key battleground state, with national implications.
